Oh, Those Spiritual Mysteries

Do you ever wonder about spiritual mysteries? I’ve grappled with the idea of our world and our very lives being a delusion. What does that really mean? (I have lots of questions.)

I’m reading, ‘THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST, THE RESURRECTION OF THE CHRIST WITHIN YOU,’  by Paramanhansa Yogananda, and have realized early on that most, if not all, of my spiritual questions will be answered within the pages of this beautifully bound two-volume set. Paramanhansa Yogananda was sent to America by his guru to illustrate that the spiritual experiences and wisdom of the masters of the East is the same spirituality and wisdom of the true Jesus Christ. As P.Y. writes, he quotes from the King James Bible and the Hindu Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, showing how the sacred teachings are the same.

Here I’m quoting from the book about delusion:

“There are two manifestations of the darkness of delusion: one is maya, cosmic delusion, “that which measures the Infinite;” and the other is avidya, which means ignorance or individual illusion…Maya is the mass hypnosis of God by which he makes every human being believe in the same illusory ‘reality’ of creation as perceived by the senses; avidya gives individuality of form, experience and expression (it supports the ego or I-consciousness).

…The light of God shines within the darkness of cosmic delusion, but man, the perceiver, suffers from two blinding maladies: the limitation of his senses, or individual delusive ignorance, and the cosmic delusion, combined.

…In meditation this darkness of sensory dependence goes away and intuition prevails, revealing oneself as light in the magnitude of a whole universe of light.”

Aha! An explanation of why we see or not see what is.:)

Have you ever chanted the sound, AUM? I have and it’s powerful, clearing, even spine-tingling. AUM in the Bhagavad Gita is the Holy Ghost (or Spirit) in the Christian Bible. From the SECOND COMING OF CHRIST:

“The designation in the Hindu scriptures of this “Holy Ghost”as Aum signifies its role in God’s creative plan: A stands for akara, or creative vibration; U for ukara, preservative vibration; and M for makara, the vibratory power of dissolution…So the Aum or Holy Ghost creates all things, preserves them in myriad forms, and ultimately dissolves them in the sea-bosom of God to be again re-created—a continuing process of renewal of life and form in the ongoing cosmic dreaming of God.”

Each letter of the sacred sound, AUM, means something: creation, preservation and dissolution. Isn’t that interesting? I safely downloaded a one minute audio of the sound, AUM from: Meditation Music. (Audio 2 is great). Even one minute of this cosmic sound is healing.

Reflection on Good Friday

My mom, who was raised in the Lutheran church and isn’t Catholic, asked me to attend a Stations of the Cross service at a local Catholic church yesterday, Good Friday. She says I am not as happy as when I regularly attended church, which is true in some ways. I do miss the fellowship and the messages of those priests who work so hard at making Christ’s loving ways and messages pertinent to today. (Obviously, I don’t miss the dark side of the church.)

I did not want to go because recounting Jesus’ beatings, his blood loss, his falls, the nails through his hands and feet, the sword to his ribs and the profound suffering of his mother, is hard if you don’t return on Easter Sunday to celebrate His triumph over death and the misguided ways of the world. But I went because she is my mom and moms tend to know what we need, even if we don’t want it.

I hadn’t been in years, but it seemed to me the message of the day was more direct, more terse than I remembered. The needs of all suffering people, the homeless, the hungry, the addicts, the dominated, the ill, the devastated, the elderly, the poor, were addressed in this way: Those who cause great suffering for others should stop; and that the suffering-Jesus knows who we are and why we suffer and is with us, all of us.

This is hard to admit, but I realized while in the church that my worldview of established religions has become cynical and how easy it is for me to feel that I don’t need a faith, that I know about the stuff of God. ‘She who knows, knows not,’ was the message sent and received. It is been a while since I felt open, contemplative and humble at the same time. Mothers do know best.

Words of Wisdom from Jamie Sams and a Woman in Japan

The pictures from Japan could hardly be more heartbreaking and the frequency of truly major disasters has everyone asking, “Could we be next?” No one would choose an earthquake or tsunami or hurricane or flooding, but they’re touching every part of the planet now. Maybe now is a good time to make peace within ourselves and with others, so that if we are struck by a disaster, we’re more prepared to make our crossing into the Light.

I was reading this morning from The Thirteen Original Clan Mothers by Jamie Sams, the chapter of Gives Praise, the Clan Mother of the twelfth moon cycle. She teaches us how important gratitude is to a joy-filled life, for the great wheel of experience turns to the next cycle only when we are thankful in the present cycle. We learn to express gratitude for the hard times because we develop inner strength through them, and for our blessings which, when shared, makes room for the great wheel to turn again to a cycle of abundance.

Waiting in the service department at a car dealer’s, I read and watched as a TV news channel reported on what was happening in Japan. I would have doubted anyone could be expressing gratitude in Japan right now, if not for the personal letter from Japan that Michael Brine forwarded to me in an email. I share it because it is quite moving, and also a template for how to act from our hearts in the wake of a disaster.

Hello My Lovely Family and Friends,

First I want to thank you so very much for your concern for me. I am very touched. I also wish to apologize for a generic message to you all. But it seems the best way at the moment to get my message to you.

Things here in Sendai have been rather surreal. But I am very blessed to have wonderful friends who are helping me a lot. Since my shack is even more worthy of that name, I am now staying at a friend’s home. We share supplies like water, food and a kerosene heater. We sleep lined up in one room, eat by candlelight, share stories. It is warm, friendly, and beautiful.

During the day we help each other clean up the mess in our homes. People sit in their cars, looking at news on their navigation screens, or line up to get drinking water when a source is open. If someone has water running in their home, they put out sign so people can come to fill up their jugs and buckets.

Utterly amazingly–where I am there has been no looting, no pushing in lines. People leave their front door open, as it is safer when an earthquake strikes. People keep saying, “Oh, this is how it used to be in the old days when everyone helped one another.”

Quakes keep coming. Last night they struck about every 15 minutes. Sirens are constant and helicopters pass overhead often.

We got water for a few hours in our homes last night, and now it is for half a day. Electricity came on this afternoon. Gas has not yet come on. But all of this is by area. Some people have these things, others do not. No one has washed for several days. We feel grubby, but there are so much more important concerns than that for us now. I love this peeling away of non-essentials. Living fully on the level of instinct, of intuition, of caring, of what is needed for survival, not just of me, but of the entire group.

There are strange parallel universes happening. Houses a mess in some places, yet then a house with futons or laundry out drying in the sun. People lining up for water and food, and yet a few people out walking their dogs. All happening at the same time.

Other unexpected touches of beauty are first, the silence at night. No cars. No one out on the streets. And the heavens at night are scattered with stars. I usually can see about two, but now the whole sky is filled. 

The mountains are Sendai are solid and with the crisp air we can see them silhouetted against the sky magnificently.

And the Japanese themselves are so wonderful. I come back to my shack to check on it each day, now to send this e-mail since the electricity is on, and I find food and water left in my entranceway. I have no idea from whom, but it is there. Old men in green hats go from door to door checking to see if everyone is OK. People talk to complete strangers asking if they need help. I see no signs of fear. Resignation, yes, but fear or panic, no.

They tell us we can expect aftershocks, and even other major quakes, for another month or more. And we are getting constant tremors, rolls, shaking, rumbling. I am blessed in that I live in a part of Sendai that is a bit elevated, a bit more solid than other parts. So, so far this area is better off than others. Last night my friend’s husband came in from the country, bringing food and water. Blessed again.

Somehow at this time I realize from direct experience that there is indeed an enormous Cosmic evolutionary step that is occurring all over the world right at this moment. And somehow as I experience the events happening now in Japan, I can feel my heart opening very wide. My brother asked me if I felt so small because of all that is happening. I don’t. Rather, I feel as part of something happening that much larger than myself. This wave of birthing (worldwide) is hard, and yet magnificent.

Gabriel: “Heed the injustices of the events in the world around you as you watch the news, read the paper, listen to all that is said of the goings on around you.  Contemplate this for a moment.  Reflect on how this makes you feel, and how you have felt in the past about such news.

“Now I ask you to look deeper inside yourself, to know that these worries of the world’s struggles are also your own struggles, simply because these same wars, these same struggles, go on inside you, daily.  They are simply struggles of a different nature as your mind argues with your heart.  The mind constantly goes to battle and conducts war against the true wants and desires of the heart.  You fight against yourself, just as the world fights against itself.

“When you think of world peace, how calming and wonderful that would be, know too, that you can have this peace within when you stop the raging war against yourself.  There is a great need to accept and understand that the inner battle is only prolonged when you continue to dislike or even hate yourself for all your perceived faults.  Know that there are no faults within you.  There is a purpose to everything within your experiences; that you be continuously guided to find the truth within, to the path that is your journey — one of constant pleasure, not of pain.

“To suffer the emotions of guilt, shame, regret, all bring about the inner war. Let go of the grip these emotions have on you by allowing the peace of your heart to shine. Have an understanding of these emotions; that you have them in your experiences, and therefore you have the true appreciation of all that is available to you in the way of positive-ness. Then, do what it takes to move yourself to a deeper, more meaningful place within.

“All war with negative emotions is wasted experience.  Allow them to be felt, acknowledge that the feeling is there, and know it is not necessary that you hold onto them.  The negative is only ever experienced so that you can be shown the way to truth and love.  Let the past be the past, for even yesterday is past.  Let your today shine forth that you can be all you are within this moment of your time.

“Always know from your heart that the only person you can control is yourself. Control is not power over the self; it is simply having the understanding of your experienced emotions.  Treat yourself always as you would treat others.  Forgive yourself for all your perceived wrongdoings, as you would another. Be forever kind and gentle with self as a new babe in this time of reconciliation with your heart. Love yourself as I love you, in the forever gentleness of pure, unconditional love.  Forever peace, my dear ones.  That is all.”

An Inconvenient Truth, a Guest Post by Michael Brine

The Mayans, through their Mayan Calendar, along with other Indigenous races such as the Hopi Indians, are indicating that now is the timeframe in which we are transitioning from the end of this past Patriarchal Age, towards the coming new age we are moving into. In the process, the old male-dominated rulers, religions, financial systems, etc., have outlived their time and are collapsing. To quote the Hopis, “We are the ones we have been waiting for.”It is my opinion that if the Mayan Calendar in its essence is correct — and I believe it is — then it is also no surprise that the population on the planet has maxed out concurrently with this “cleansing” period we are witnessing. There are too many people on this planet to feed and nourish everyone properly. Hence, with the added chaotic weather anomalies we are seeing, food is becoming scarcer as crops fail. In the U.S. prices are rising, as they certainly are here in Canada, and also in Europe. It is part of the upheavals triggered by the cyclic time period we are moving through. Once again as I’ve said so often, you cannot build a new building on a rotten foundation! The corrupt and decaying elements we have allowed ourselves to be controlled by will not be part of this ‘new world.’

The situation that existed in Atlantis as its demise neared was that those who were Aware were given the insight to leave before the ‘Storm’ hit. Some went to North Africa (or what we now know as North Africa) and some to South America. Hence the similarity to the Pyramids and the Mayan Temples. Atlantis had become corrupted in a similar way as our world has to-day. I am not certain if this coincided with a cyclic event (which is the case to-day) but if we are to believe Anastasia, there was certainly a major event relating to an Age change. All I can add is that for whatever reason my Buddhist monk knew something was coming as did Major Wellesley Tudor Pole, who I had met around 1961 in Glastonbury, England. The vision I have always had is that after this ‘Storm’ has passed those who are left will re-start civilisation with the awareness to not repeat the errors of the past, but to live and create a world of Communities working together. More than this I cannot say.

All life in our Universe is subject to cycles — the tides of the ocean — the seasons — life spans — the movement of the stars — night and day, and so on. The population maximising concurrently with this transition is part of our planet’s continuing cycle. I believe in this 2011 year, starting in mid-March and in the following months, we are going to witness major disruptions and upheavals right across the world beyond anything we have ever witnessed before. Sadly, I sense many will die, which is why I have advised people who ask me: Move away from large centres of population as there will be much turmoil. I believe that is why my visionary Buddhist Monk — Namjyal Rinpoche — inspired me to move up here to Canada’s north those many years ago–all part of this “cleansing” I refer to. Knowledge is empowering — what we do with that knowledge if it rings a bell within us, is to use our intuition as to how we should proceed — but NEVER out of fear! Continue reading

Meditation For Christmas Morn

Celebrate the birth of Christ in the cradle of your consciousness during the Christmas season. Let His vast perception in Nature, in space, and in universal love be felt within your heart.

Break the limitations of caste, color, race, religious prejudice, and inharmony, that the cradle of your heart be big enough to hold within you the Christ-love for all creation.

On every Christmas morn of your inner perception, prepare precious packages of divine qualities and deliver them to the beloved souls who gather around the Christmas tree of inner awakening to commemorate His birth in understanding, truth, and bliss.

Celebrating the birth of omniscient, omnipresent Christ Consciousness on the joyous Christmas festivity of your inner awakening, you will find the unbroken happiness of your dreams.

Let the omniscient Christ Consciousness come to earth a second time and be born in you, even as it was manifested in the consciousness of Jesus.

Where Does Peace Come From?

When I was young, I believed if enough of us marched for world peace, peace would happen—ha ha, right? Now I know it takes something more than marching or even thinking about peace. Peace is the natural state of our souls and between lives, we know this. We may have something like a vague recollection once reborn on Earth, but it’s very hard to give up our positions and our desires; peace pretty much always takes a back seat.

Peace begins within, the old saying goes. That means peace is so important to us, we’re willing to understand what ‘within’ means. We’re ready to know, where does peace come from? How is it implemented? We’re also willing to hear others’ needs because theirs are as important to us as our own.

In every situation, at least one person must be able to see the path to peace, to rise above finger-pointing and a desire for revenge. That’s a big one. It’s natural on Earth to want control and payback, but it’s not the natural state of our souls. Our souls love, forgive and serve.

So, I dedicate my Christmas peace collage to the beautiful man, the Prince of Peace, who was conceived through a miracle over two-thousand years ago, born to reconcile us with our Creator. How are we doing?

Love and the Holy Days

Life is so fascinating—here we are in these physical bodies running around town like crazy, working, shopping, trying not to drop. Then, there’s the spirit of Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza (and other holidays too, I’m sure) which we hope will transport us to a quiet, inner place of joy, secure in the knowledge that we are far more than frantic minds and bodies on the go.

Years ago, in Sedona, Arizona, friends and I stopped at a shop that took pictures of human auras with a special camera. (I think of auras as the energy that imbues and surrounds living things, which can be perceived as colors by people who are psychically sensitive.) We all thought it would be fun to see what our auras looked like and shared our photos afterward. I can’t remember everyone’s colors anymore but I think my picture was mostly red and green.

My point is, we are energy that, in a healthy person, radiates several feet beyond our bodies. Our energy fields reflect the thoughts we consistently think, our moods, everything really, including our experiences of the sacred. I think we love the holy days because, for a time, they invite us to a place within that is beyond our humdrum lives. They allow us to see there is more to us than meets the eye–that we are spiritual beings who carry on after our bodies die. (I once read that our life force (our souls?) weighs three ounces, which seems so insubstantial, doesn’t it, for living beings?) When we respect others and celebrate holy days together, our energy fields mix and Love catches the winds circling the globe, just like Santa Claus.

Surprise Communication

My daughter returned Wednesday night from a four-day spiritual retreat called Kairos, with other students from her Catholic high school. (Kairos is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment to say or do the right thing.) Neither parents nor students were given much information about the trip; all were asked to trust in the experience and the care of the adults in charge. Monday night, parents were invited to a short prayer service for the success of the retreat and seven or eight students who had previously attended called the retreat a life-changing experience in one way or another. It sounds magical, I thought. I wonder what happens there and if it will happen for Katie.

A Powerful Knowing

My friend, Sharie, from Sending Joy, a WordPress blog, made a comment recently on my post, ‘A Simple Life in a New World.’ At her blog, Sharie teaches how to focus on Love and Light and leave all the rest behind. I’d like to share here her comment; the sentences in italics deeply touched me:

“Pam Dear, we need to believe in everything because all things are possible. The so-called miracles of this world, like your son’s magic tooth, are really nothing compared to the power of God that is working constantly in and through us in a place beyond this world. I would tell our brother who doesn’t believe in the power of visualization that he needs to have a little more faith … in himself. We can look and easily see all the destruction and the violence and scarcity and pain and suffering here. Those things are easy to see because they make a lot of noise and are very distracting. And they’re in the news a lot, presented in the most dramatic way possible.

But the peace and joy and capacity for true healing that lives within us is very quiet and so we don’t always remember to look for it. We just need to pay a little more attention to the real miracles and less attention to the chaos. It’s all in where we choose to focus our minds. On the flowers—or the weeds. On the destruction—or on the love that arises from it. Thank you for all your thought provoking posts. Love you, Sharie”

“The so-called miracles of this world, like your son’s magic tooth, are really nothing compared to the power of God that is working constantly in and through us in a place beyond this world.” Powerful words, powerful knowing. Sharie and I both started our blogs in June, 2009, and soon found each other. I write about my spiritual journey with mostly personal reflections. Sharie is like a ship, strong and sure, riding waves of Light from the Love-place beyond this world, the place her heart-mind is ever focused. I hope you’ll stop by her blog, http://sendingjoy.wordpress.com, especially when you’re feeling fearful or overwhelmed. Every time Sharie posts, she uses different words to assure us our chaotic world is not the real world, and all we need do to experience love and healing is turn our eyes toward the Light and say, “I see you, Lord of Love. I am here.”

On a personal note, we’re having our family Thanksgiving dinner this weekend because this is when we can all be together. Both my sons will be here from out of town and I am so happy! My brother’s daughter and her children were here last weekend for a reconciliation that happened. I’m taking a moment to express my gratitude for a loving family that had quite a way to go, and made the journey, is making the journey, with the grace of Love.

Before Us Stand Two Portals, A Guest Post by Michael Brine

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now!”                                           Goethe

Humanity has moved into a critical time period. Before us stand two portals. We have a choice. One is to repeat the mindset of the past several thousand years, and thus keep digging an ever deepening grave – OR – to embark on a new and exciting adventure into as yet, largely unchartered waters. The choice is ours – as a species – as individuals.

The past is laid out before us, to this moment in time, to reflect on with all its horrors and tragedies – a past in which we have given our power away to those who would take it for their own misguided motives and behaviour. In our blindness we have sadly contributed to it, in most cases out of ignorance. We have blindly followed the cultural conditioning we have been raised in, as were our parents and their parents, back into the mists of darker times. Ignorance breeds ignorance.  

I have heard a wise teacher suggest that our misguided behaviours will keep repeating until the ‘penny’ drops and we raise up from the dead and see a new but distant Light beckoning to us—and until we find the courage to walk forward and accept it as real. As we begin to bathe in this Light’s enfolding embrace, as we link our hands with others who have also heard the ‘Call,’ and have removed the blindfolds from the deadness of our fear – the fears will no longer control us!

“Out, out brief candle – life is but a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage – and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing.”  Shakespeare

Sir Francis Bacon, actually, wrote those words about five hundred years ago. Has anything changed? Must we wait until we remove this ‘mortal coil’? Or can we wake up now and see the graveyards we have allowed to be dug in our combined pasts and have the courage to say, “Enough!”  We deserve better – and certainly our children do.If all of us joined hands and reflected on the world we would like to live in, maybe we could make it happen.

No – NO! No ‘what ifs’! Visualize it! Let go of that controlling emotion called fear. We deserve better, but only we can make it happen. The road of Love is the strongest and surest road to walk on. We don’t need to compete with each other for our existence. We need to see and appreciate that by working in concert and not competing, by sharing our efforts as in a very real community of people, we can leave the darkness of the past and begin to dance and sing as we wake up in a new world of our combined creation. This can be a global effort. Let not “lines on a map” divide us. There are many already around the world working in and with different organizations who have the vision. If more and more embrace this vision then the magical tipping point will be reached and it WILL happen!

When it does, it will be the biggest “WOW” we have ever experienced. SO – Let the Dance begin! A dance in which men and women will join hands as equals. Dance, dance, dance the night away and throw our cares to the wind – embracing the dawning of this, OUR New Day.

It WILL happen. It MUST happen, or we will sink into a bottomless grave of our own making. If that should happen there will be a sickening silence across the land – the candle snuffed and life as we know it will disappear into the thickening shadows extending into an endless night – a night we will have largely created by allowing ourselves to be controlled by negative forces – forces that have been controlling us throughout this past age of darkness through fear. Rulers have done it – religions have done it. God – that creative force of the Universe – is Love. This Love has no judgments used to control us – IT simply IS! So be it.

The Game of Life, a Guest Post from the 11:11 Progress Group

There are days when my faith sags–kind of like my body 🙂–and I think the wonderful new world is not coming, that instead the whole world is lost to darkness. On those days, I go outside at night and send my heart’s longings up to the stars and then an email like this one from the 11:11 Progress Group arrives in my In Box. May you also be blessed by these words.

Monjoronson: “When you are born into this world, you find yourself naked and alone, and divorced from all you know and comprehend.  The journey of your life is to piece together that from which you came, that which you are, and that which you will become.

There are veils around you in all ways, forging a barrier between you and your true Divine Self, between you and your colleagues, and between you and your own sense of the reality that sits beneath that which you perceive; yet with care, effort and love within your heart, you start to chip away at those veils to discover yourself and the wondrous entities that share their worlds with you, forging the veil into a new structure, no longer a barrier, but a device to allow you the wonder of experience life fully on earth.

Do not be distressed by your apparent separation from that which you feel as home, but instead delight in the glory of all that is on Earth, which you are unable to experience in any other place within this universe.  If you saw already what the true nature of reality was, then you would be stripped of the wondrous motion towards perfection and of the childlike delight formed when discovering that which is new to your perceptions.

Think of this life as a game, a game in which there are no losers and many, many different paths to the final stage.  It’s a game of exploration, of fun, of joy and of sorrow, and like all good games it would not be exciting without fear, apprehension and anxiety at times.

These moments help to stand you in good stead for a future as Divine Being, to empathize and understand those still encompassed within the lowest planes of the ascendant mortals.

Know every move has been calculated and its potential assessed, though it remains your own will, which dictates which potential is followed. We delight in progressing our paths alongside you, watching the way you tackle emergency and trauma, and comforting you when it all becomes too much.

Know that your efforts, always valiant, are noted and recorded, and when the time comes to look back on your lessons you will often see that those which form the greatest part of your ‘learnings’ are the ones that passed unnoticed within your own times.

In all that you are, and all that you can be, you are perfected beings finding the way of will in a world of dichotomy and inconsistency.  Each turn you take is a marvel and part of God’s plan to experience how life becomes itself when separated from all that it already knows.

Feed from the light of the sun, find sustenance in your communion with others, and look to the heavens for inspiration and fortitude.  We are by your side and we will never leave you until your journey on this plane is through.

By the morning, all will be clear.”
