An Intro to “Secrets of the Ancient World”

cayce bookI’ve been reading SECRETS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD by Little and Van Auken. While most of Edgar Cayce’s (the Sleeping Prophet) readings were about healing for those who asked him for help, sometimes in explaining what was going on with them, information came about other subjects such as Creation and the fall from heaven.

While in a trance state, Cayce described the five root races. When spiritual, free-will companions of the Creator grew curious about the rest of creation, they projected themselves into a denser world and became the first root race. The second root race occurred when these fluid beings created humanoid forms, which they occupied.

Over millions of years, these humans lost more of their connection to the Creator and could no longer come and go out of the forms they created. They retained some of their spiritual powers, but used them mostly for selfish reasons. They created ‘things,’ thought-projections in animal/human and plant/human forms, to be their slaves. This period coincides with the origins of Atlantis, about 200,000 B.C. and they were the third root race.

The Intelligence that spoke through Cayce, says that Creation consisted of Continue reading

Speaking with Crow, Coyote and Hawk

I had an intense ‘nature’ experience when I went home to visit family in December. My mom and I came out of an office building where we had stopped to see a friend. Just as we climbed into the car, what must have been a hundred crows, maybe more, flew toward the reflective building. They were coming toward us from behind, but it seemed like they were also coming toward us from inside the mirrored building. It was like a special effects scene from a movie and struck me deeply. The crows landed on the roof of the building; my mom looked at me and said, “That’s a bad omen.”

I can’t remember exactly what I answered. It was something like, “Not necessarily, mom. Crows represent wisdom, the dark womb of creation and magic. They do bring messages, though. It could be a message.”

I thought later, What a warning it was!

Aliens, Conspiracies, Cabals and Consciousness

The Greater Picture is the most interesting website I’ve ever seen. It talks of alien civilizations, their technologies we could use, criminal cabals, collective consciousness and the Gods of universes. Fascinating is an understatement.

Thanks to Vince Gatien for sending me the link to The Greater Picture. The material below is from their home page:

“Okay, so you’re saying that in principle you’re open to other ideas. Let’s put that to the test straight away 😉

Below are 10 theses. Please have a read through.

1. The universe is swarming with life, and many alien civilizations are millions of years ahead of us in their technological and spiritual development.
2. Alien visitors have been coming to Earth longer than humans have been living here, but a universal law dictates that a lower civilization should be left alone.
3. Some higher technology, like free energy, anti-gravity techniques and vibrational techniques that cure diseases or make matter unsteady, are also known on Earth. But this is kept secret.
4. The most powerful people in the world form a criminal cabal that practices devil-worship and is actively abusing the people, keeping them ignorant, frightening them and poisoning them.
5. Our Earth is about 700 billion years old. She is, like most other planets and moons, hollow on the inside and is (also) inhabited on the inside. Because of the centrifugal force of the Earth’s rotation she annually grows a few inches, making the continents drift apart.
6. Everything is made by, and is part of, the Creator who experiences itself through countless different forms of life and universes. Each universe has at least one God who co-created that universe and manages it.
7. All matter is light-energy that vibrates at a certain frequency. Full consciousness exists in this energy and this is why matter can be influenced by DNA or the human brain for example. All knowledge, thoughts and intentions on a planet together form the collective consciousness. Our society is a reflection of our collective consciousness.
8. Modern man is the result of genetical experiments performed a long time ago by a negative alien race on the indigenous people in the south of Africa. The adjustments in their DNA made us slavish, prone to diseases and they limited our consciousness.
9. The soul of a human being passes through hundreds of lifetimes in which it experiences all aspects of life and the moral spectrum, making it develop spiritually. In between, souls reside in heaven, where they evaluate completed lives and plan new lives, with the help of their guides.
10. All life is moving in cycles of different lengths. Currently, Earth is in a process that’s called Ascension, in which a cycle of duality is coming to an end and an harmonious era begins in a higher dimension.

So…what do you think? Interesting theses, or impossible nonsense? In case of the latter, you might want to consider carrying on browsing the net, because these are the contents of this site!:) And these theses are all true. No, not kidding, we’re serious.”

12 Astrology Signs,12 Fates a Guest Post from ‘The Astrology of Fate’ by Liz Greene

AstroSymbolsI’ve been reading The Astrology of Fate by Liz Greene and have finished the section on the twelve astrological signs and how each sign copes with its Fate– as in the struggle between individuality and Spirit. I’m not an astrologer but couldn’t resist the title; I’ve definitely received more than I bargained for. I see it as an intense book written for better understanding the dark nights  of the soul.

“Fate,” says Greene, “ensnares us through the body’s passions and desires. Fate enchants but also avenges transgressions of the natural law. Fate is not wrong, but the heroic in us may seek to transform or overcome them.” She adds, “We can’t transcend our Fate through spiritual techniques, but there may be wisdom in seeing the inner image of what is showing in outer events.”

Greene uses myths of the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses to tell her astrological stories; it seems we humans are all at war with either our Dark Mothers or Terrible Fathers. We are living, working, to accept and understand the results of the decisions made with our Shadow Selves. Greene says that how we live with our Fate is influenced by when we are born and her insight applies to both our sun signs and rising (ascendant) signs; for example, I would read Taurus for my sun sign and Sagittarius for my rising sign. What she writes also applies to the male and female genders of each sign.

I have have mostly used the author’s words as I try to ‘get to the point’ for each sign, though in some cases I have summarized. I also plucked sentences from many pages of interesting information on each sign. It is a long, deep book and, as I’m not an astrologer and can’t be sure I’ve fully understood what she has written, please read about the signs below using your own common sense and insights.

“ARIES will overthrow the old order and, asserting independent, individual spirit, enact fierce competitiveness. It is a desire for freedom—but there is only one god. Aries is about that which must be redeemed from the grip of the Terrible Father, whether this be a love, an idea, a philosophy or a creative endeavor that is not valued by the ‘fathers’ of the world. Because his battle is with God, the Father, Aries must be fully conscious of what he is doing, and needs to reverence the deity against which he strives. If the son remains devout, the encounters with Terrible Father create inner authority and Aries can then handle the responsibility of the kingship he has fought for. If he is arrogant, he will not enter the place of his personhood. Without this struggle he remains the eternal son and never enters the place where he embodies his manhood.

Honoring Christ from Our ‘Inner Temples’ A Guest Post from SRF

Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi and founder of Self-Realization Fellowship, encourages us through his writings and talks to look beyond the material celebration of the holidays, to focus also on the spiritual celebration: our connection with the Divine, which resides within each one of us.

The following quote by one of Paramahansa Yogananda’s foremost disciples, Sri Daya Mata, president and sanghamata of SRF from 1955 until her passing in 2010, is shared here with permission from SRF.

“Doesn’t almost everyone feel aglow with happiness at Christmas time? There is a deep spiritual reason. It isn’t just the pleasure of exchanging gifts and loving messages, and doing for others. [Paramahansa Yogananda] said that on the birthdays of great ones such as Jesus, there is tremendous rejoicing in heaven. Vibrations of that celestial joy permeate the atmosphere. Those who have open and loving hearts are stirred by it, and those who strive for deeper attunement through devotion and meditation fully participate in that sublime celebration. The degree to which we are in tune with heaven’s joyous recognition of Jesus’ birth depends upon the effort we make to commune with Christ — not just in the outward spiritual festivities in his honor, but in the inner temple of deep meditation.”

The Winds of Change, A Guest Post by Michael Brine

“Today man stands at the decisive crossroads of his fate.”
Major Wellesley Tudor Pole – 1960

By Michael Brine
wild.brine621@gmail.com

The “Winds of Change” are blowing across this world of ours and it is because of an awareness of this that I have chosen to write these articles over the last several years. I am fully aware that there are those who may question my ideas, or that I touch on sensitive issues relating to their faiths, perhaps creating some discomfort. No insults intended. Happily, I also know from responses I’ve had, that there are a good many who are supportive and even intrigued by some of the insights penned. This, of course, is encouraging.

Let me be clear. These “insights” are not just mine; they are shared by many others around the world. This realisation is because of the new element we are able to use in this ‘modern’ world we now share – the Internet! In the past, many of us felt we were operating in isolation, but the internet has brought us all together and with the happy awareness that we are not alone in our understanding.

The old ways no longer serve us. We must be open to change. Like it or not, change is happening. Its intensity will only be increasing as we move forward into this new awareness that is lighting the path now unfolding before us. The litter we are leaving behind must be seen for what it was, and the damage it has done to the human psyche. Control through fear can only exist in darkness. A new light dawns. A new awareness is being felt. The darkness is fading, and a new dawn is spreading its Light across the world. Hope is being replaced by a new inward surge of understanding and an inner awareness that is beyond words: Love.

It all boils down to awareness – awareness – awareness! Searching for a clearer path and knowing has been an interesting journey for me. Opportunities came and went, and like a dog I would sniff the air, put my nose to the ground and follow a particular scent, check it out, piss on the odd tree, and then move on–or not. It all boiled down to awareness!

I now realise that there is no room for me to distrust or to give my power to fear; instead, I have compassion for how much unawareness there is–part of the sad conditioning of sick civilisations that are in need of undressing. By this I mean, throwing away our soiled clothes, spreading our arms, and welcoming the breeze of Love that can now begin to caress us in a warm embrace. We have to trust enough to risk undressing, exposing our vulnerabilities with AWARENESS! Until we can do this, mistrust will continue to be the influence and we will bow our heads and weep.

We only have to look at Syria or Iran and their pathetic leaders to see the seeds of distrust once again sickening their people, as well as humanity as a whole, into another ocean of despair. Once again, we see the religions mankind–and I mean ‘mankind’–has created, purposely gaining control through fear. Once again history repeats itself, and we have learned nothing, OR have we? Those beautiful and special Messengers of the past that have blessed humanity have had their messages of Love so disembowelled to satisfy a lust for power by men that it has divided us from each other–sadly, so very successfully. Satan himself couldn’t have done a better job!

Well, now wait – listen — there is a “Cleansing” about to take place the likes of which we have never seen on this Earth before. In the meantime those who are waking up and have garnered a degree of awareness must sit on the sidelines and watch in sadness once again, as in Syria and Iran, but also sadly at times, even within more individual situations. The amputations of the heart casts a shadow of fear over the human family.

Be prepared. The storm IS coming, and when it has unleashed its fury, it will pass; then there will be a silence across the lands and oceans, the likes of which have never been experienced before. Then – slowly — there will be a slight breeze that will begin to caress us – and like a quiet whisper we will begin to hear its gentle voice – and our awakening to a new dawn will hopefully begin. A new Sun will begin to bathe us in its fresh and gentle light.

In the meantime we must trust who we are and find peace within ourselves, for you are me and I you, and the embrace will go out to enfold us all after the storm. Storms are for cleansing – remember how fresh the air is after one? Remember?

Fulfillment Not Found Through Self-Effort, a Guest Post from Marvin C. Shaw

You know how every once in a while you come across a book that changes your life? THE PARADOX OF INTENTION: Reaching the Goal by Giving Up the Attempt to Reach It, by Marvin C. Shaw, has been life-changing for me. I’ve often struggled with this question: Do we set goals, make plans and go for want we want? or Do we let the goals and plans go and give ourselves over to the Universe, Great Spirit, God, Christ, Buddha, Higher Self, etc, and accept that we will be guided toward our highest good? On some level I’ve felt the second one is true but have struggled with self-focused problem of, ‘But what if I don’t get what I want?

Mr. Shaw writes in each chapter of different religions/philosophies/ devotions (i.e., The Manual of Epictetus; the letters of Paul; the Tao Teh Ching of Lao Tzu; Saraha’s Treasury of Songs; Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy; and also of Gautama Buddha, the Japanese Buddhist sect called Zen; and Elizabeth Kubler-Ross) that all lead to the same conclusion:

“There is no need to struggle to be free; the absence of struggle is itself freedom.” (From Chogyam Trungpa).

Here is a paragraph I found particularly meaningful:

Quoted from THE PARADOX OF INTENTION by Marvin C. Shaw:

“Non-interference as an attitude to living is thus possible because one has come to see fulfillment as bestowed by the Tao and not contrived by self-effort; now one does not exert oneself to secure the good of one’s own personal life apart from the total system of nature. The attitude of non-interference and natural action then puts one with the flow of nature, which fulfills the being of everything in the whole. The power and life and wisdom of the Tao are appropriated through letting be; it fosters our greatest good when we are open to it, giving ourselves over to natural, effortless action and not obstructing its natural flow with attempts to know, plan and manage.”

Teamwork is the Watchword of the Universe, A Guest Post from the 11:11 Progress Group

Urantia, May 28, 2012
Teacher: The Beloved One
Subject: “A Lesson on Teamwork”

Received by Lytske

The Beloved One: “Teamwork is an art that requires mutual co-operation. One could see teamwork as a form of co-dependence, when one has to depend on others that certain tasks be accomplished independently. Inter-dependence is a more accurate term. I assure you that the universe, yea all of creation, depends on the service of all beings that inhabit it. In fact, teamwork is the watchword of the universe, as each being fulfills that particular function, which no one else fulfills. All creatures must necessarily fulfill their personal life function. The sooner humans find out what it is they are here for, the sooner they will find themselves in harmony and cooperation with the universe itself, feeling at peace with their inner selves also.

“It is an interesting thing for Me to watch some of you slowly becoming more aware of the important part you play on the stage of life, doing this without aggrandizement of ego importance, always reminding yourselves that the work is important, the self is not. Such an attitude is a must for successful cooperation with others, and it is truly a rarity to find a measure of such understanding cooperation between two or more people — working independent of each other, and yet slowly coming to a mutual understanding that this is a requirement for growing their individual souls, to work as a team, and at the same time investing in the growth of their souls for life eternal.

“Such partnerships will eventually become more commonplace although at first certain things or issues are not clearly understood by either one, or both, or even all. It is a matter of sublime trust that whatever you are engaged in will ultimately not only benefit yourselves but also countless others. No true endeavor ever goes un-noticed. Even when separated by great distances, such partnerships can occur, thus the sum total of a lone working servant’s achievement in the service of his/her Creator, can become exponentially more important, even when the work is carried out on the other side of the globe in a mutual, unspoken and unwritten agreement. More and more may join in, not one knowing the other, yet all may be bound together by the common purpose to work for the progress of all. A small group can become larger and larger, as the silent call goes forth to be of service to the upliftment of the planet. This is teamwork of the realm of spirit manifesting itself on the material world.

“However, the greatest service anyone can render is by seeking the Stillness in their heart, to affect cooperation with their heavenly Partner within. Indeed, to affect such a measure of cooperation that, unwittingly at first, they become a mighty partner in the most important teamwork anyone can engage in — a partnership with the Indwelling Adjuster of their Thoughts. This is the ultimate partnership in teamwork one can achieve in one’s material existence. This, eventually, is a requirement for all humans but to affect this of your free will, driven by an insatiable hunger to be of service is the triumphant culmination of a life well lived. Here dwells the greatest satisfaction amid the storms of life — the inner feeling that you, too, can cooperate with your Spark of God within. Rest assured, you could not wish for a better Partner than the One who lives right inside of you. Trust and have faith that in time this partnership will become more divine in teamwork and mutual cooperation.”

“The good of human life . . . “

From THE PARADOX OF INTENTION, by Marvin C. Shaw:

“The good of human life is not achieved by attempting to achieve it . . .
but by not attempting to achieve it for, on this condition, it is discovered
to be already in one’s possession.”

To Find Our Way Home, a Guest Post from 11:11 Progress Group

Michigan, US of A, April 22, 2012.
Teacher Ophelius.
Subject: “The Vital Ingredients.”

Received by Chris.

Teacher Ophelius: The message for today is about the importance of developing a spiritual map for the afterlife, and the main ingredients needed to assure your transition for the continuance of identity and spiritual continuity. There are far too many on Urantia [Earth] that are passing through without a map — believing in nothing and finding bewilderment, fear, and darkness when the transitions come. This is not what Christ Michael wants for you. He wants you to know the way, know the truth, and have life everlasting, and so we are here, your teachers, to enlighten you, that you may know, and those in your circles may know through you, the way home.

1. The first ingredient is to recognize the Source, the Creator Father, The Almighty Upholder, the Creator of all life in the grand universe and beyond, and understand the sovereignty of God as universal, all wise, everywhere present, all powerful, and eternal.

2. The second ingredient is to understand the paradox of God:

a. God is furthest from you: Man being created in an imperfect state, most unlike God, but created to learn, grow, and gain experiential wisdom, to become godlike through the ascension process — to learn how to love.

b. God is closest to you: Through the agency of the Indwelling Spirit, a fragment of divinity that lives and works in your mind, teaching, leading, coordinating, and piloting you through life, giving as much love and assistance as your free will may allow to ‘spiritize’ your mind and your thinking for the development of your soul — the embodiment and essence of who you really are — the survivable vessel for your continuing life on the mansion worlds (the hereafter).

3. The third ingredient is to have faith and believe you are a child of this Creator Father. Having accepted this gift as sons and daughters, available to all, without condition, you are granted the right of eternal life if you so choose to take the grand adventure to become godlike and move ever inward, from life station to life station, learning, growing, and serving in the creation and becoming co-creators with God.

4. The fourth ingredient is to know where home is. Be confident and have the faith that all has been prepared for you — that your homecoming is anticipated and the way made clear for you to enter into your inheritance. Believe that when you breathe your last breath in this life, that your Indwelling Spirit (the keeper of your mind transcripts and experiences), and your Guardian Angel ( the keeper of your soul trust) will come together on the third day and awaken you in your new home on the mansion worlds — the training worlds of human ascension and progression.

These basic ingredients are needed to assure a smooth transition and a joyous reunion on the mansion worlds. Be therefore confident in your survival and enjoy your life on the worlds of time and space knowing this is only the beginning of an unending astonishing career of life and service in the creation.

Peace to you,
The Circle of Seven.

What Did We Do to Save the Earth? a Guest Post by Sister Mary P., RSM

By Sister Mary P., RSM

It’s 3:23 in the morning and I’m awake, because my great, great grandchildren won’t let me sleep.  My great, great grandchildren ask me in dreams, ‘What did you do while the planet was plundered? What did you do when the Earth was unraveling? Surely you did something when the seasons started failing, as the mammals, reptiles, birds were all dying. Did you fill the streets with protest when democracy was stolen? What did you do, once you knew?”

~Drew Dellinger in Hieroglyphic Stairway

Not having grandchildren or great grandchildren doesn’t let me off the hook.  In some ways, I ask Drew’s questions of myself on behalf of all children, the two legged, the four legged, the winged, and they sit heavy in my heart.  “What did you do, once you knew?”

The realization that I can never do enough in time to change the course we’re on weighs me with sadness.  I think there was a time when I naively thought I, we, the Sisters of Mercy, the government, someone, would wake up in time — in time to save the trees, the oceans, the animals, the children of the future. Instead, I think, we can’t fix it.

Now I am caught in an awkward space between two worlds: the Cenozoic, the one I love, the most astounding creativity Earth has ever expressed; and the new Ecozoic, a term coined by Thomas Berry to indicate the new era of a mutually enhancing human-Earth community. This world is coming into existence even as the other is diminishing, the one in which we will have to prioritize life issues in a different way because the world is spinning us into the unknown and the unfamiliar.  The world is catapulting us into a major shift in perception. What would a “vibrant Earth Community” look like? How would it feel to let comprehensive compassion flow through us? What if our conduct were guided by an ideal, not a heaven, but an integral Earth Community?

Genesis Farm’s recent newsletter speaks of “entering our chrysalis moment.” I think it is our personal and collective chrysalis moment, a moment of transformation.  Transformations in our Universe are usually accompanied by cataclysm, death, annihilation of one sort and the birthing of something radically different.  I think about the death of a supernova and the birth of our solar system. I think of Resurrection in a new context. Earth appears to be hurtling toward a breakthrough moment. No quiet cocoon for her!  Instead, a sixth great extinction is occurring. The temperatures say it’s the warmest year on record. Storms and tornadoes and flooding, oh my!

Pema Chodron says “Fear is a natural reaction to moving toward the truth.”  Is the truth that we are dying, or is the truth that we are being re-birthed, as Barbara Marx Hubbard suggests? Here I am, finally aware that I am not “other than Earth,” but a genuine mode of being of Earth. What am I to do?  Do I allow the chrysalis to form and go with the cataclysm or do I rail against the death of all I hold dear? Or do I do both?

I remember attending Earth’s Passion Retreat at Crystal Spring some five years ago and the cry that year was, “The ice is melting.”  This year, we read an article in Orion Magazine by a young man named Steven Kotler who traveled to Patagonia to write about Ecopsycology. His conclusion: “I am melting.” I catch the difference.

My reading tells me we are in for a rocky ride as we are forced to abandon the structures to which we have held on: the growth economy, the petroleum era, a stable climate, endless resources…so many others…already gone!

I look at what is emerging from the young: Tim DeChristopher, climate activist, jailed for bidding on 22,500 acres at an oil and gas lease auction.  He said to the judge, “I do not want mercy; I want you to join me! This is what hope looks like.  This is what love looks like!”

I follow the iMatter movement of youth across the country, who are suing the government on behalf of Nature’s Trust. I oppose anything that threatens their water, their air, their soil and seed. They have a right to be here, these kids, more aware at 16 than I am at 65! They will create the new. They will not keep slapping on the old solutions. I trust them, but I also fear for them. Cataclysm isn’t something I’m used to embracing.

Where do we go from here and what is possible for the future? I guess we keep showing up, carrying our protest signs. We meditate. We take action whenever we can on behalf of the whole. We relinquish what can no longer be held in the old wine skins, and some of it has been sacred to us.  We take our place among the many.  We lean our backs against a tree and listen. We align ourselves with the spirit of Earth and get ready for the journey.

We must go forward as community, but it is a much larger community!

It is now unthinkable that any women’s congregation should not be committed as a primary concern and purpose to the natural world.
If the life systems are not saved then everything else is irrelevant.”

Who’s That Knocking At My Door? a Guest Post by Thomas O. Mills

A heartfelt, powerful post from Tom Mills:

By Thomas O. Mills
Email: tmills1870@aol.com
A few mornings ago, I was having my first cup of coffee and reading my newspaper when the doorbell sounded. There stood two women, about my age–old–smiling and holding out a booklet for me to consider. They wanted to talk to me about religion.

I explained to them that I would listen to their views, if they would listen to mine. “No problem; what religion are you?” they said.

“I consider myself Hopi, Native American,” I said.

“Surely you do not believe that pagan Indian stuff, do you?” and it was about this time that my wife of 33 years left the room.

I listened patiently about Armageddon, what day was really the day for us to Worship, Salvation, World War Three, and how there was only one right religion and it was theirs.

Before I began to talk, I took the time to look up the word pagan in the dictionary, so I could have my guns loaded for them.

Pagan = Heathen

So I looked up heathen:  1. A person who is not a believer in any of the world’s chief religions, especially one who is neither Christian, Jew or Muslim.  2. An unenlightened person, one regarded as lacking culture or moral principles.

It was true that the Hopi elders that I had the privilege to speak to many years ago were not Christian, Jew, or Muslim, but to say they were unenlightened or lacking culture or moral principles was a bridge too far for me. That is just not the case. Perhaps the definition should be changed to say, not Christian, Jew, Muslim or Native American, when you consider that Native American cultures and religions covered the entire North and South American continent, an area larger than all three of those other religions territories combined.

The Hopi do not have a special day to worship; they worship every day, at sunrise and at every meal. They do not have leap year, daylight savings, hours, seconds or minutes.  The Earth’s rotation, the position of the sunrise and sunset, the winter and summer solstice, the equinox, the stars at night–these are their timepieces. If you woke up tomorrow morning and there was no electricity for your clock, computer, or watch how would you know what month, day, or time it was? Most of us couldn’t even fix a cup of coffee.

Native American cultural ways and our cultural ways are two different things but to say Native Americans do not have culture is truly a lack of education and understanding.  The elders I knew had more moral principles than anyone I have ever met. Always happy, sharing, giving, loyal, respectful, trustworthy and honest. When they talked, people listened. They knew where we came from, where we are going, and what needs to be done to get there. They never accepted anything in return for their knowledge or teachings, no donations, pledges, money, or royalties.

No matter what role a Hopi takes in a ceremony he or she will always show humility on all occasions to everyone. From The Book of the Hopi, White Bear Fredericks:

A Hopi traditionalist, who refuses to seek honor and high office, avoids manifesting exceptional talent and ability, and seeks to show humility on all occasions. There are no Hopi priests, properly speaking, to expound any religious beliefs whatever. Every adult Hopi man participates during the year in at least one major ceremony, after which he returns to work in his fields, wearing no vestige of priestly garb and carrying no aura of sanctity.”

To participate in one major ceremony each year is a little more taxing than showing up for one or two practices, singing in the choir, and then performing on Sunday for an hour or so, as many of us do in our Christian culture. Almost all Hopi ceremonies last for 16 days or more, and they involve fasting, praying, ritual smoking, abstinence, preparation, weaving, painting, carving, composing, planting, memorizing, and dancing. The spouse has to grind corn to make piki, weave baskets, bake hundreds of loafs of bread, prepare lunch for all the people that come to visit and all those participating in the ceremony, and take care of the household and the children in her husband’s absence.  Most of the people I know participate all year long and not just for one ceremony during the year.

I truly do not understand how they do it. My participation in anything is so small that I find myself longing to help the Hopis when I spend time with them. Their culture is a lifelong commitment and their ceremonies are performed for all four races of man: black, yellow, red, and white. They do not think of any of us as being pagan or heathen; we are all just human.

CEOs of major corporations, and I’ve known a few, do not have the weight of the world on their shoulders, such as the responsibility for the crops and the weather, logistics, timing, nor do they have the  problem-solving ability of a Hopi fulfilling his ceremonial cycle each year. I would challenge any one of them to follow in an elder’s footsteps for just one year, day in and day out, winter, summer, spring, and fall, and to be happy just to help the world, bless the crops, and make it rain. No stock options, benefits, vacation, days off, or golf games to ease the pain.

When I look back at history and think of all the tribes, ceremonies, and cultures that were destroyed and lost in the conquering of the Americas, I think I know who the real heathens were. Something very few want to talk about when they come knocking on your door.

Note: I received these pictures in an email. Thank you, Toni! I believe they’re taken from various chinese news sources.

Photos taken right after the earthquake and during the rescue.

You are not alone

The earthquake was right in the area where the pandas lived. Most pandas in this area were rescued.

Hungry pandas

Particular attention was give to the babies. All the pandas were scared.

We've got your backs!

Time to play

Time to nap

Boo!

Mission Accomplished

All the pandas were released into the wild. It was noted that they all stayed together.

Need Hope? ‘Peel and Toss,’ An Inspiring Guest Post from Sharie at Sending Joy

“I will shine my light with God today.”

Love is the center of the Universe. We have packed a lot of stuff around it and so we can’t always see the center very well. Together let’s start peeling off the excess that hides the truth from us. That fight we had with our spouse, peel it away. That moment we yelled at our child, peel that off right now. Let’s go find the child and give him/her a hug and say I’m sorry, then throw the moment in the trash. The time we felt worthless when someone insulted us. Peel it off and look at it. Can’t we see that wasn’t us they were talking about, but only a reflection of how they saw themselves? Well that’s a relief. Now we can throw it in the trash and wish them well.

Then there’s that worrisome moment when we listened to the news and heard how bad the world is. That hopeless, helpless feeling. How is it helpful for us to hang onto that? Peel it off. Bless the world and send it healing love and throw the bad news in the trash knowing there has to be a better way, a Higher Power that can heal even the worst devastation. There has to be hope.

A beloved friend or family member in dire straits is enough to distract us from our peace. Peel that off, ask the Universe how we can help and lift our loved one up to God for healing. One by one let’s clear the junk away. Obsessions over food, drugs and alcohol. Fear from the past and fear of the future. Peel and toss!

What’s that we see up ahead? Is that a Light? Did we hear laughter? Was that a jolt of joy we felt? Come on, let work’s faster. Peel and toss. Peel and toss. Peel and toss. Ahhh! Look! It’s the center of the Universe at last! It’s wondrous! And so restful. There is perfect balance here with everything and everyone in harmony. We are amazed to discover that not only is the center of the Universe filled with Love, but we are the Love that lives at the center of the Universe.

What was that dark and dingy place we peeled away? Who cares? It’s over. And now it’s time to live. Now it’s time to shine our light with God’s and really live.

Thank you, Sharie.
